PT Harum Energy has bought a controlling stake in a nickel processing plant, part of a trend of Indonesian coal miners moving into metals vital to the energy transition.

Nickel miner PT Vale Indonesia is aiming for output this year of about 70,800 metric tons of nickel in matte, an official said on Monday, a similar volume to the 70,728 metric tons produced in 2023.

Dmitry Korchik, general director of the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ), told reporters that the company plans to export 200,000 tonnes of steel to African countries in 2024.
