[Ferro-Alloys.com]Global high carbon ferromanganese exports during 2004-2008 maintained at 1.2-1.36 million tons according to data provided by global trade statistics. Affected by the economic crisis, the exports showed an abrupt declining with only 666.184 thousand tons. Then with the slow economic recovery, high carbon ferromanganese exports increased to 1.15 million tons in 2013 from 990 thousand tons in 2010.

In terms of exports in 2013, the main high carbon ferromanganese supply countries including of South Africa, South Korea, China, India, Netherlands, Ukraine, Russia and so on. With abundant mineral resources, South Africa has unique exports condition on ferromanganese. In 2001, the exports on high carbon ferromanganese amounted to 785 thousand tons, hitting the historical record high for more than decade. Then the exports fell to 264.8 thousand tons in 2009 from 513 thousand tons in 2008 suffered by economic crisis. As the economy gradually pick up, exports increased to 525 thousand tons during 2013.

In fact, as one of main ferromanganese suppliers, China high carbon ferromanganese exports kept at the level of 130-180 thousand tons during 2004-2008. However, suffered by high export tariff and financial crisis, exports shank to only 17.9 thousand tons in 2009 from 180 thousand tons in 2008. The situation became worse in 2013 with only 5195 tons exports in China. Apart from China, Ukrainian exports of high carbon ferromanganese also saw a steep decrease to the point of 180 thousand tons in 2008 since 280 thousand tons in 2004. In 2013, the exports fell to only 18.7 thousand tons.

As China losing competitive edge in international market for as high as 20% export tariff on ferromanganese, other countries like South Korea, Netherlands and India took this opportunity to increase international share. It is reported that South Korea exports of high carbon ferromanganese expanded to 170 thousand tons in 2013 from only 4,236 tons in 2004. As for Netherlands, high carbon ferromanganese exports amounted to 80 thousand tons from 3,796 tons. Meanwhile, Russian increased to 62.7 thousand tons from 1,857 tons in 04. For India, the upward trend for high carbon ferromanganese exports seemed to be more momentum with 150,000 tons in 2013 from less than 10,000 tons.
