FERRO SILICON : In the iron and steel industry, silicon plays a very significant role. In steelmaking it is the main deoxidant and in special  alloy steels it is the main alloying element. In cast irons it is the main graphitizing agent. Ferro silicon is produced in different grades according to silicon contents. The common application for ferro silicon is 75 % Si containing alloy. It is produced in a submerged electric arc furnace with coke, quartzite and iron chips as raw materials. 10-11 MWh energy is required to produce one ton of ferro silicon 75 % Si.
