[Ferro-Alloys.com] The 9th Cored Wire Technology & Trade Summit kicked off last Friday in Shunyi, Beijing. Some 120 delegates on cored wires business attended the meeting.
Director Cheng Defu from Quality Centre of Baotou Iron & Steel Group gave a lecture on Application of Calcium Metal Treatment in Steel Production. It received thunderous applause.
Before the lecture, the correspondent from ferro-alloys.com consulted him on several questions involving cored wires.
Some producers hold that cored wires is not economical in that it has a low degree on utilization rate. Mr. Cheng believes that compared with other kinds of cored wires, a 30% utilization rate is quite high for calcium cored wires.
At the early times when calcium’s role in purifying liquid steel, calcium was packed and buried deep into furnace. The practice was quite dangerous and low-efficient. The invention of feeding cored wires into liquid steel was a technology breakthrough.
As for utilization rate, he believes that as long as there is no spraying out when feeding cored wires, the cored wires is fully used. But due to different technological expertise and equipments used in steel making, performance varies.
