[Ferro-Alloys.com]Manganese-focused Cancana Resources Corp (CVE:CNY) told investors its joint venture with Ferrometals, BMC continued to accelerate the project in Brazil.
Updating on exploration in the latest quarter, the firm said the current exploration team had been expanded and would focus on multiple activities from the second quarter, with infill drilling, reconnaissance drilling and multi-commodity exploration all planned.
A fourth drilling rig is also being negotiated, the group said.
Running through highlights, Cancana said 188 holes had been sunk so far - for over 10,000 metres.
Highlight results included 4.6 metres (m) at 22% manganese (Mn) from 28.8 metres at the Vitalino Prospect.
There was also 9.65m at 19.3% Mn from 46.55m, including 1.1m at 53.5% Mn from 49.05m at the Ademir-Vitoria Prospect and 7.15m at 19.3% Mn from 48.4m at the Eduardo Mendes prospect.
BMC currently has three drill rigs on site, with one dedicated to infill work and it is in discussions to add a fourth so more infill work can be carried out.
Mapping and trenching has expanded the database of known manganese occurrences and new areas are being scheduled for both pre-production activities and for deeper primary vein exploration. So far there has been more than 5,000m of exploration trenching and 10,000m of drilling.

The Eduardo Mendes - Ademir - Vitalino corridor has now been prospected over a strike length of 14km and several new zones of manganese colluvium and associated veining have now been detected.
Colluvial pre-production programs are currently testing the central Ademir area as a source of material for the 2016 production year and an application has been lodged for an extraction permit (Guia de Utilizacao) over this target, said Cancana.
At the Antonio Gomes Corridor, an infill and extensional drill program is scheduled in the second quarter focused initially around the central section where multiple veins were encountered.
