[Ferro-Alloys.com]= No.1 furnace is in operation and No.2 furnace is scheduled to start operation in July =
On May 16, Sumitomo Corporation announced that Sakura Ferroalloys project as a ferroalloy business to produce ferroalloys in the Sarawaku, Malaysia driven by a joint venture with Assmang Ltd., South Africa and China Steel Corporation, Taiwan started production of manganese-containing ferroalloy.
This project started the construction of the plant in 2013, finished the construction of No.1 furnace (electric furnace) in April 2016 and the production of manganese-containing ferroalloy started this time. High-carbon ferro-manganese is to be produced by this No.1 furnace.
The production by using No.2 furnace is also scheduled for commencement in July this year (silico manganese is supposed to be produced), and the steady ramp-up of the production will be going on from now onward aiming at a full-scale operation.
For a reference, this plant is equipped with 2 electric furnaces, the products are high-carbon ferro-manganese and silico manganese and the annual production capacity is 180,000 tons.
The interest is 54.36% owned by Assmang, 26.64% by Sumitomo and 19% by China Steel respectively.
