[ferro-alloys.com]Nornickel’s Polar Division is completing the upgrade of the hoist system at skip shaft No. 3 of Taimyrsky Mine. The project will enable uninterrupted and failure-free ore hoisting from 1,345 m underground. With the system fully on stream, the Company will see ore output surging from 3.6 to 4.4 mtpa. The overhaul cost exceeds RUB 4 bn.
The skip shaft has been upgraded in two stages. The southern section was modernised during the first stage of overhaul, which wound up in 2013. The renovation of the northern section has been in progress during the second stage launched in 2017.
Currently, the construction and installation works are nearing completion. The headframe (the structural frame above the shaft) with a height of over 84 m now benefits from modern vibrating feeders and conveyor belts, control and monitoring systems. The shaft’s Russian skip winder was replaced by a new one manufactured by SIEMAG TECBERG (Germany) and boasting a motor power of 6.3 MW.
The retrofit of skip shaft No. 3 was carried out on schedule and within the shortest time possible thanks to well-coordinated efforts of all parties, including the Taimyrsky Mine project office, local specialists, equipment suppliers and Norilsknickelremont acting as the contractor.
