Cause Analysis and Countermeasures against Spatter of Pure Calcium Cored Wire:

Ⅰ. Cause of Spatter

Melting point of calcium is 843℃, boiling point is 1450℃;

Solubility is low;

Static pressure of molten steel is lower than saturation pressure after evaporation of calcium (shallow depth of insertion);

Steam bubble is big (amount of monomer is large);

Ⅱ. Consequence of Large Spatter

Hidden danger;

The rate of yield is lower and the cost is higher;

Nitrogen increases;

Increase thickness of iron sheet and depth of insertion (difficulties for processing and wire feeding);

Reduce unit weight of calcium properly (long time for wire feeding, high cost and low efficiency);

Granulate calcium metal, form many small bubbles after evaporation for more absorption (uneven unit weight and large fluctuation).
