[ferro-alloys.com]Nickel and gold miner Mincor has snared Western Areas’ David Southam to lead the restart of its Kambalda nickel mines.
Mr Southam will take over from current chief executive Peter Muccilli in February.
He had been an executive director of nickel producer Western Areas since 2010.
Mincor chairman Brett Lambert said Mr Southam’s skills were well matched to the company’s objectives.
“I am confident that he will contribute greatly towards achieving our goal to re-establish Kambalda as a significant nickel mining centre,” he said.
Mr Southam will be paid $500,000 a year with the opportunity to receive short-term incentives of $250,000 a year and long-term incentives of $500,000 a year.
In addition as a sign-on incentive he has been granted three million options with exercise prices of 40¢ and 50¢ and five-year expiry.
Mr Muccilli started with Mincor as its chief mine geologist in 2004 and became chief executive in 2016.
Mincor shares were down 0.5¢, or 1.4 per cent, to 35.5¢ a share at 11.30am.
