[Ferro-Alloys.com] MMC decided to sell directly to US customers. In the past, the company sold first through BHP Billiton and Tophet and then in September 2004, through Chemalloy. The company is emphasizing it is a producer—all the Chinese manganese metal, which contains selenium—is sold in the US through resellers. In addition, MMC has manganese metal stocks in Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Chicago. And, MMC’s manganese metal, unlike the Chinese, is not subject to the 14% import duty.

 

In the first seven months of 2012, the US imported 4,418.4 mt of manganese metal from South Africa out of a total of 13,651.9 mt of at least 99.5% Mn flake. In 2011, total South African exports to the US were 1,968.9 mt out of a total of 15,485.6 mt for all US imports.
