[Ferro-Alloys.com] Swedish steelmaker SSAB will idle one of its blast furnaces (BF) in Raahe, Finland to reduce output following the effects of Covid-19 on the market, while also agreeing to temporary lay-offs with its workers.
Last week, SSAB said it was going to cut output from its operations in Finland and Sweden in response to shrinking demand for flat steel products in Europe due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company has now confirmed that it is going to temporarily idle one of its two BFs in Raahe, it said.
"Steel production capacity will be cut in line with weakened demand and one of the blast furnaces at the steel mill in Raahe will be temporarily idled in April," , they said.(Metalbulletin)
