A special railway line for coal mines that officially opened in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Wednesday, will play an important role in transporting coal from the region to coastal areas of China, Yangcheng Evening News reported.
 
The 39.24-kilometer railway track costing more than 4 billion yuan ($571.43 million) is being built by its investor, Guangdong Pearl River Investment Management Co. Construction of the project began in 2003.
 
The railway track is one of the region's coal, electricity, track and railway station integration projects costing more than 40 billion yuan, said Zhang Xin, who is in charge of the special railway line.
 
The entire integration project is for transporting more than 30 million metric tons of coals to Guangdong province, and generate tax revenues of more than 500 million yuan. The project has created about 10,000 jobs.
 
Zhang Huiyong, assistant general manager of the investment company, said nongovernmental companies should play a big part in boosting economic development via technological innovation and industrial upgrading in the post-coronavirus era.
 
Elsewhere, Guangdong Fenglu Aluminum Co participated in a new central business district project that is basically completed in the new administrative capital of Egypt, 45 kilometers east of Cairo.
 
The project includes a 380-meter-tall skyscraper and 20 supplemental buildings, plus related municipal engineering facilities.
 
With floor space of more than 1.7 million square meters, it is the largest single project that a Chinese company has contracted in Egypt.
 
Liu Zhiming, deputy general manager of Fenglu, said the company has participated in many other construction projects in Africa, including airports and railway stations.
