Steam Turbine Enables World’s Most Efficient Ferro-silicon Plant

[Ferro-Alloys.Com] MAN Diesel & Turbo has supplied a steam turbine generator set for a melting plant owned by Finnfjord in Norway.
 
The generator will allow the plant to increase its energy efficiency by around 40%. Given an electricity output of 40 MW, the turbine set is used to render waste heat from the production process usable, by converting it into electricity with the generator.
 
Lying north of the Arctic Circle , the Finnfjord AS plant produces ferro-silicon, a supplementary material for manufacturing steel and cast iron.
 
The investment means the company has achieved its ambitious aim of constructing the world’s most efficient ferro-silicon production plant.
