  Recently, the international standard for ferronickel testing (iso23156:2021) formulated by Jiuquan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. was officially released and implemented on the official website of the international organization for Standardization (ISO). The standard is formulated on the basis of China's national standard drafted by Jiuquan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., which will play an important role in promoting the green, environmental protection, intelligence and efficiency of quality arbitration and detection in the process of ferronickel world trade.

  This international standard was first proposed by the inspection and testing center of Jiuquan Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd. in 2013, and officially approved in January 2018. Zhu Weihua, the chief engineer of the center, acted as the convener and director of the project. After the project was approved, the project team made great efforts to win the support and cooperation of experts from all over the world. After nearly a thousand experiments, nearly a hundred demonstrations and dozens of rounds of communication and discussion, the project team went through a number of strict processes from the new project proposal draft to the publication draft. Finally, the standard draft was reviewed by the International Standardization Committee, and was unanimously approved by experts from all over the world. It was passed by a unanimous vote in December 2020, It will be officially promulgated and implemented on March 26, 2021.

  Ferronickel is an important alloy raw material for stainless steel production, and its quality test results directly affect the economic benefits of the producers and users. China is the largest user of ferronickel in the world, and imports a large amount of ferronickel for stainless steel smelting every year. The release of international testing standards plays an important role in the process of ferronickel trade. Previously, the international standard of ferronickel detection mainly used manual chemical analysis method to determine single element separately, which was time-consuming and labor-consuming, and used a lot of dangerous chemical reagents. In 2009, the inspection and testing center of Jiuquan Iron and steel company successfully developed the inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry for copper, phosphorus, cobalt, chromium and manganese in ferronickel, and completed the drafting and release of the national standard for instrument testing methods.

  This is the first time that Jiuquan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has presided over the development and formulation of the international standard for ferronickel testing, and it is also the first ISO international standard proposal in our province to be approved and implemented, which marks a breakthrough in technical innovation in the field of inspection, a new height in the standardization of inspection and testing, and the voice of Jiuquan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. and Gansu Province in the international trade of ferronickel. The internationalization of China's ferronickel testing standards has enhanced China's influence and voice in the field of international ferronickel standards.
