[Fellow]U.S. steel imports in May increased by 14.1% month-on-month

【Ferro-alloys.com】According to preliminary data released by the U.S. Census Bureau, the United States imported 2.513 million short tons of steel in May, a decrease of 4.8% from the final value in April. Among them, semi-finished steel imports fell 31.9% month-on-month to 666,000 short tons, while finished steel imports increased 11.3% month-on-month to 1.845 million short tons. The US market share of finished steel imports in May is estimated to be 20%.

US steel imports from January to May increased by 7.1% year-on-year to 11.78 million short tons. Among them, the import volume of finished steel was 7.966 million short tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%. The variety with the largest year-on-year increase in imports from January to May was hot-rolled sheet, which increased by 41.7% to 996,000 short tons. The US market share of finished steel imports from January to May is estimated to be 19%.

The main source countries of finished steel products in the United States in the first five months include: imports of 1.052 million short tons from South Korea, a year-on-year increase of 12.2%; imports of 403,000 short tons from Japan, a year-on-year increase of 8.0%; imports of 331,000 short tons from Turkey, a year-on-year increase of 12.7 %; 314,000 short tons were imported from Germany, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%.
