US steelmaker Nucor will build a new galvanizing line at its California rerolling mill.
The $370mn new continuous galvanizing line at Nucor's California Steel Industries (CSI) rerolling mill in southern California will add 400,000 short tons (st)/yr of capacity when completed. The project is expected to take 2.5 years to complete after Nucor receives regulatory approvals.
The galvanizing line will bring CSI's total galvanizing capacity to 1.2mn st/yr when complete.
Nucor's chief executive Leon Topalian said the investment is to take advantage of "recent closures of galvanizing capacity in the western region," alluding to the closure of US Steel's galvanizing facility in northern California. (argusmedia)
