¡¾Ferro-alloys.com¡¿£ºWith an investment of US$32mn, Chilean iron ore miner Minera del Pacífico (CMP) looks to continue operating in the Pleito district until 2029, which the CAP group firm holds in northern Atacama region.
To that end, CMP filed an environmental impact study for Pleito phase 3 with the evaluation service on Wednesday.
The project involves the expansion of the Pleito Sur and Bronce Sur pits, and the Bronce Sur, Pleito Sur Norte and Pleito Sur Este waste dumps, among other things.
Maximum throughput is estimated to reach 240,000t/m, in line with the company's mining plan, the project description indicates.
The ore will be processed in two plants that CMP has for the production of pellets, fines and iron ore pre-concentrate.
CMP is the main iron ore producer on the Pacific coast of the Americas and represents 99% of the iron ore that Chile exports. Pellet feed, self-fluxing pellets and sinter feed account for 96% of the company's shipments.
In 3Q22 CMP produced 4.4Mt of iron ore and in 2021, 16.3Mt.
