Ferbasa produced 36,069 mt of high-carbon ferrochrome in the first quarter of 2013, and sold 39,334 mt—138,168 mt domestically and 1,166 mt for export. For the second quarter, the Brazilian producer is projecting a reduction of 18.8% compared to first-quarter sales which saw consumers rebuilding of inventories. Export sales in the second quarter are expected to fall 78.3% in the second quarter to only 300 mt but domestic sales are projected to increase by 79%. Production of low-carbon ferrochrome was 4,918 mt, of which 3,281 mt was sold domestically and 838 mt for the export market. The company is projecting a decrease in low-carbon sales of 8.6% compared the first quarter.
