[Ferro-Alloys.com] Jindal Steel commissions first continuous galvanising line in Odisha as part of Rs 3,400 crore investment
In a significant milestone for its value-added product strategy, Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) has commissioned its first continuous galvanising line at its Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha.
The commissioning is part of a larger Rs 3,400 crore investment in a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) complex, aimed at boosting downstream production capabilities.
The newly operational galvanising line will manufacture both galvanised and galvalume steel products, marketed under the Jindal Panther Galvanised and Zinkalume brands. According to Business Standard, these products will cater to diverse sectors, including automotive, infrastructure, appliances, and construction.
Calling it a ‘proud milestone’, Chairman Naveen Jindal said the new line reinforces the company’s commitment to providing high-quality, specialised steel solutions for evolving industry demands.
The Jindal Panther Galvanised product range includes full hard, soft, and skin-passed galvanised steel, essential for items like air conditioners, white goods, electrical panels, ducting, coolers, vehicle bodies, and more. They also serve as ideal base material for pre-painted galvanised iron (PPGI).
Meanwhile, Zinkalume Galvalume products feature an aluminium-zinc-silicon alloy coating, enhancing corrosion resistance and thermal durability. These are used in solar structures, refrigerator backs, fuel tanks, and pre-painted galvalume (PPGL) applications.
The line also enables the production of thinner hot-rolled galvanised coils, crucial for tube manufacturing, tank farms, silos, and pre-engineered buildings, along with high-strength galvanised steel for automotive underbody components.
This expansion aligns with a broader industry trend of steel companies investing in downstream, value-added products that offer higher margins.
With this development, reportedly, Jindal Steel moves closer to its goal of ramping up the Angul plant’s crude steel capacity to 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by the end of 2025, doubling from the current 6 MTPA.
