[Ferro-Alloys.com] US Sec. 232 decision on polysilicon and related products expected as soon as next week
The US government reportedly has sped up its decision on Sec. 232 tariffs on polysilicon and polysilicon products to as soon as the end of October; the decision was originally scheduled for March 2026. Th Trump Administration is moving up its decision after the Chinese government imposed a ban on rare earths.
Previously, the Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) proposed specific tariff recommendations. The CPA suggested tariffs of $0.20 per watt on solar modules, $0.10 per watt on cells, $0.07 per watt on wafers, and $10 per kg on polysilicon imports. They also proposed TRQ thresholds of 30GW for silicon cells, wafers, and ingots from “secure, trusted ally countries,” and 40,000 mt for polysilicon.
