Japanese steel mills’ consumption of low-carbon ferrochrome fell to 14,183 in the first four months of 2013, down 9.4% from 15,653 mt from the same 2013 period. Stocks at the end of April totaled 5,213 mt down from 5,803 mt a year ago. In 2012, the steel mills’ low-carbon ferrochrome consumption fell 1.5% to 44,625 mt from 45,326 mt in 2011. The year-end inventory fell to 5,373 mt from 5,923 mt a year ago.
