China's self-sufficiency ratio of copper sulphide concentrate reduced from 80 percent in 1995 to 30 percent at present due to enlarged smelting capacity, according to the latest report by General Administration of Customs.

The report highlighted the increasing pressure on domestic enterprises due to the shortage of copper resources.

"Industry monopolies with a firm grip on international copper resources slashed the processing payment for China's copper smelting enterprises, which pushed up the domestic prices of copper products and other downstream products," the report said.

Still, China didn't receive sufficient compensation in a bid to recover the environmental damages by wastes from copper smelting process.

Statistics show that China exported 406,000 tons valued at 3.3 billion U.S. dollars of non-forged copper and copper products from January to July in 2008, up 14.8 percent and 27.2 percent year on year, respectively.

China's monthly export of copper products peaked at 73,000 tons in April with export prices averaging 8,494 U.S. dollars in July.
