Japanese nonferrous metal output and shipment improved for 4 items out of 20 items in September from a year earlier, according to data by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The output and shipment increase was only 2 items in August. However, smelting activity decreased under slow economy.
The rolled aluminum flat products output increased by 4.1% to 116,774 tonnes in September from a yea earlier. The shipment increased by 8.1% to 111,386 tonnes due to higher demand for can, printing plate and automobile along with the export.
The aluminum foil output increased by 1.6% to 11,656 tonnes in September from a year earlier. The shipment increased by 3% to 11,995 tonnes due to higher demand for electronic machinery and equipment. The aluminum wire output increased by 23.1% to 4,402 tonnes and the shipment increased by 20.4% to 1,341 tonnes.
The electrolytic copper output decreased by 3.8% to 127,048 tonnes in September from a year earlier while the shipment increased by 4.9% to 86,783 tonnes. The rolled copper output decreased by 4.1% to 78,126 tonnes and the shipment decreased by 1.9% to 77,611 tonnes. –Japan Metal Bulletin
