Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged the central government departments to settle power coal supply issue and deepen electricity-pricing reform.

The purpose of the reform is to enable electricity price to reflect resource scarcity, production cost and the relation between supply and demand, and transmit price signal to customers to help them save energy, an expert from China Electricity Council (CEC) explained.

The expert suggested long-run contracts for coal purchase and steady marketable price for electricity under the government supervision.

So far, China's major power giants have not yet concluded any contract with coal enterprises due to price conflicts, losses of power enterprises and increase of coal production costs.

Recently the central government has held a conference on power coal supply and demand situation, a positive signal for coal and power enterprises.
