[Ferro-Alloys.com]Mehdi Ghazanfari, the Minister of Industries and Business announced that there were several steel projects being implemented.
He said that Iran will no longer need to import steel products once these underway steel projects start to operate.
At present, Iran imports around 7 million tons of crude steel a year while the new steel projects will be able to produce 12 million tons.
Therefore, the Minister said Iran will become one of the world’s major steel exporters by 2016. In fact, the country’s steel output increased by 5 million tons in the last 2 years to reach 17 million tons.
In the first five months of the Iranian year, the country’s output of crude steel totaled 6.25 million tons, rising by 8.8% year on year.
