In August this year, global pig iron production amounted to 97.7 million metric tons, falling slightly by 0.3 percent compared to July and up 6.65 percent on year-on-year basis, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production released by the World Steel Association
In August, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 75.7 million mt, up by 9.2 percent, with 59.9 million mt produced by China, up by 11.5 percent, 7.14 million mt produced by Japan, down by 0.75 percent, and 4.16 million mt produced by India, up by 11.8 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in August this year EU countries produced 7.4 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 7.06 million mt of pig iron output, with a decline of one percent and a rise of 5.26 percent respectively, year on year.
In the meantime, in the first eight months of this year world pig iron production amounted to 779.03 million metric tons, rising by 4.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
