7 December 2009 - Elkem Bremanger, part of Norwegian multi-industry group Orkla ASA (OSL: ORK), signed last Friday a contract for NOK1.5bn to supply super-pure silicon to Japanese Mitsubishi Corp (TYO: 8058), Norwegian regional daily Firda said.

The contract reportedly runs for six years.

Orkla told news wire Reuters that it is in talks with Mitsubishi, but denied that an agreement has been signed.

"We will come up with more information when this is ready," Elkem AS spokesman Johan Chr Hovland told Reuters.

Elkem is Orkla's metals and materials producing subsidiary. Elkem Bremanger, which is based in western Norway, specialises in the production of Silgrain metallurgical silicon, ferrosilicon and specialty inoculants. (Trading Markets)
