TEX reported that, reflecting the fact that Japan produced 11.9 million tonnes of special steel products in the first half of 2010, which had a remarkable increase of 90.3% compared with that in the same period of 2009, the steel industry of Japan consumed 3,228 tonnes in material of ferrovanadium in the first half of 2010, having had a considerable increase of 75.6% compared to that of 1,838 tonnes in the same period of 2009.

Also, owing to this substantial revival in consumption of ferrovanadium by steel companies of Japan, the output of ferrovanadium by Japanese producers in the first half of 2010 came up to 2,234 tonnes on material base, which had a large increase of 2.54 times compared to that of 800 tonnes produced in Japan in the same period of 2009.

On the other hand, Japan imported 2,201 tonnes in material of ferrovanadium in the first half of 2010, having had a substantial increase of 60.0% compared with that of 1,372 tonnes in the same period of 2009. Also, reflecting an expansion in domestic production of ferrovanadium, Japan imported 958 tonnes in material of vanadium pentoxide in the first half of 2010 as raw material for production of ferrovanadium, which increased by 44.7% as compared to that of 662 tonnes in the same period of 2009.
