Silicon Metal Consumption is up by 6% from prior month and inventory decreases by 11% in March 2014

[Fellow]On April 28, Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association announced the result of demand & supply for silicon metal and the result of production of secondary aluminium alloy products in March 2014 as well as in the fiscal year 2013.

On April 28, Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association announced the result of demand & supply for silicon metal and the result of production of secondary aluminium alloy products in March 2014 as well as in the fiscal year 2013.

According to this, the consumption of silicon metal in March was 3,936 tons, up by 5.9% from the prior month. Meanwhile, partly because the quantity received was 3,715 tons, up by 4.2% from the prior month, the month-end inventory decreased by 10.7%.

On the other hand, the production volume of secondary aluminium alloy products was 72,840 tons, up by 5.4% from the prior month, and the quantity shipped was 72,827 tons, up by 5.3% ditto. The month-end inventory increased to 24,673 tons. The details are as per the table below.

For a reference, the total consumption in the fiscal year 2013 was 43,897 tons, down by 0.5% from the prior year, and the quantity received was 44,747 tons, up by 1.6% ditto. The production volume of secondary aluminium alloy products was 819,913 tons, up by 4.1% from the prior year and the quantity shipped was 828,896 tons, up by 4.1% ditto.
