On January 28, Japan Aluminium Alloy Refiners Association released the result of demand & supply for silicon metal and the production result of secondary aluminium alloy products in December 2015. According to this, the consumption of silicon metal in December was 3,283 tons, down by 9.0% from the prior month. On the other hand, the quantity received was 3,616 tons, down by 2.0% from the prior month, and the month-end inventory was 2,503 tons, up by 14.1% ditto. Besides, the production volume of secondary aluminium alloy products in December was 62,157 tons, down by 7.1% from the prior month, and the quantity shipped was 64,058 tons, down by 5.1% ditto. The month-end inventory was 19,900 tons, down by 5.7% ditto. This was a result of aluminium makers and customers having refrained from producing and purchasing raw materials in December so as to adjust in-hand inventories toward the end of December, and there is such anticipation in the market as a low demand will continue also in the period from January to March in 2016. For a reference, the consumption of silicon metal in the full year 2015 (January - December) was 42,115 tons, down by 4.6% from 44,145 tons in the prior year. |
