According to the U.S. Commerce Department figures, the U.S. steel exports rose 15.3% percent to 500,197 tons from a month earlier, but fell 15.2% from a year earlier. In value terms, U.S. steel exports totaled $647.3 million in August, compared with $602.7 million last month and $855.3 million in the same period last year.
	Exports of 240,136 tons of steel to Canada in August rose 7.5% from last month, but fell 10.9% from a year earlier. Exports to Mexico rose 17.6% to 208984 tons, down 22.3% from a year earlier.
	Other major export destinations include China (5,308 tons), the Dominican Republic (4,589 tons), Australia (3,185 tons), the United Arab Emirates (2,908 tons) and Spain (2,752 tons).
