Market news: India’s Monnet Group intends to build a ferrosilicon smelter in the Pavlodar region of Kazakhstan for an outlay of $250 M (€211 M), the Kazakh industry and infrastructure development ministry has announced.
Production capacity will initially be up to 15,000 t/y, with plans to increase that to 50,000 t/y in a second stage. The first phase’s cost is $50 M, the second’s $200 M.
The ferrosilicon will be mainly exported, the Interfax news agency reported the ministry as saying.
New Delhi-headquartered Monnet produces silicomangenese, ferromangenese and ferrochrome in India and also runs iron ore mining, coal mining and coal washing operations in the country.
