According to the American Steel Association (AISI), for the week ending 9 January 2021, US crude steel production is estimated at 1.709 million short tons (1.5504 million tons), 10.3% lower than 1.906 million tons in the same period last year, But 3.6% more than 1.65 million tons a week earlier.  
That week, the U.S. steel plant utilization rate was 75.4%, down from 82.4% in the same period last year, but higher than the previous week’s 74.6%.  
Subregionally, crude steel production in the northeastern United States is estimated to be 155,000 short tons, a decrease of 2.52% over the previous month; The output of the Great Lakes region is 601,000 short tons, an increase of 1.69% over the previous month; The output in the central and western regions is 184,000 short tons, an increase of 1.1% over the previous month; The output in the southern region was 699,000 short tons, an increase of 8.71% over the previous month; The output in western region is 70,000 short tons, a decrease of 6.67% over the previous month.  
Since the beginning of this year (as of September 9), the adjusted total crude steel output in the United States was 2.18 million short tons, down 10.4% from the same period last year; the utilization rate of steel plant capacity is 75.2% down 82.4 % from the same period last year.
