[Fellow]Brazil's December steel production increased by 17% year-on-year to 2.89 million tons

Ferro-alloys.com:Data released by the Brazilian Iron and Steel Association on Monday showed that Brazilian steel mills increased production in December.

Brazil's steel production in December 2020 was 2.89 million tons, an increase of 17% from December 2019; it was 2.95 million tons in November.

Brazil's steel production for the whole year of 2020 fell 4.9% year-on-year to 30.97 million tons.

The decline in production was due to the fact that blast furnaces and other equipment ceased operations shortly after the country announced the adoption of social distancing measures in March last year. This situation only improved at the beginning of the second half of the year.

In December, domestic steel sales in Brazil increased by 28% from the same period of the previous year to 1.83 million tons. The cumulative increase for the whole year of 2020 is 2.4% to 19.25 million tons.

The Brazilian Iron and Steel Association stated at the end of November that it expects Brazilian steel sales to increase to 19.9 million tons in 2021.
