[Fellow]Russia's crude steel production increased by 1% in 2020

Ferro-alloys.com:Russian steel manufacturer Novolipetsk Steel (hereinafter referred to as "Russian Steel") announced production and sales data for the fourth quarter and the full year of 2020. According to the company's statement, the crude steel output of New Steel in the fourth quarter totaled 3.9 million tons, an increase of 1% over the previous quarter. In 2020, the company's crude steel output totaled 15.8 million tons, an increase of 1% year-on-year.

In the fourth quarter, the total sales of steel products of the Russian New Steel Group fell by 5% from the previous quarter to 4.2 million tons. This was due to the decline in slab sales, year-end inventory growth, and equipment upgrades that led to a decline in long product sales. In the fourth quarter, supported by increased demand for pig iron and billets, the company's total sales of steel products increased by 1% year-on-year. In 2020, the company's total sales of steel products increased by 3% year-on-year to 17.5 million metric tons. This was due to the increase in pig iron sales to 1.5 million metric tons, and steel production declined during the overhaul of the Lipetsk Russia New Steel blast furnace.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, due to the decline in sales of steel products in the local market, the total domestic sales was 2.6 million tons, a decrease of 7% from the previous quarter and a decrease of 10% from the same period last year. In general, in 2020, the company's domestic sales fell by 6% year-on-year to 10.7 million tons, mainly due to reduced shipments in the US market and reduced sales of long products in the local market.

The company’s total export sales in the quarter were 1.6 million tons, an increase of 21% year-on-year and a decrease of 14% from the previous quarter, mainly due to the decrease in flat panel sales to third parties. In 2020, driven by the growth of pig iron and billet exports, the company's export sales increased by 17% year-on-year to 6.8 million tons.
