[Ferro-Alloys.com] The Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) has granted the conversion of the old-order mining right for Evraz Vametco’s North West-based vanadium mine to a new-order mining right.
The application for the new-order mining right was submitted in 2004 and granted in 2013 for a period of 25 years. Evraz Vametco would now embark on the process of registering of the new-order mining right.
CEO Malcolm Curror said the new-order mining right would guarantee stable and uninterrupted production for the next 25 years.
The mine is a producer of Nitrovan, a unique vanadium-nitrogen product, which, according to the company, allows steelmakers to use less vanadium in high-strength steels, thus reducing vanadium costs.
Other products include vanadium trioxide and ammonium metavanadate.
