Output from Indian operations was higher by 4.3pc against the previous year on the back of debottlenecking across sites and ramp up of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited at Kalinganagar in Odisha, the company said. Crude steel output in January to March rose by 5.1pc on the year to 5.15mn t.

Deliveries rose by 3.3pc on the year despite a volatile operating environment during the financial year, Tata said, adding its domestic deliveries rose by 10pc on the year. The Indian government had imposed a 15pc export tax on several steel products in May-November last year. Its deliveries rose by 1pc on the year to 5.2mn t during January-March.

Tata Steel Long Products' crude steel output during the period increased by 33pc on the year to 910,000t, while saleable steel sales rose by 26pc to 822,000t on new output from NINL. NINL's crude steel production stood at 202,000t and saleable steel was at 167,000t in October 2022-March 2023.

NINL began operations on October 2022, within three months of completion of acquisition, and has steadily ramped up during the last two quarters, with current run rate of crude steel and pig iron around 1mn t on annualised basis, the company said. argusmedia.com
