The German Embassy and the Vietnam Industry Agency held a panel in Hà N?i exploring solutions to decarbonize Vietnam's steel industry.

The panel noted that global steel production is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions and Vietnam's steel industry also contributes to the country's carbon footprint. Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Guido Hildner said that Germany launched the Climate Club at last year's COP28 and that one of the main goals of this club is to support developing economies in
climate-friendly industrialization.

Cécile Seguineaud, Industrial Policy Analyst for OECD Clean Energy Finance and Investment Mobilization, emphasized the importance of investing in low-carbon technologies to align industry growth with countries' net zero emissions targets. Seguineaud also emphasized the importance of assisting emerging and developing economies in designing financing solutions and improving enabling conditions that could accelerate the transition of the steel industry.

The panel marks the start of a new series of events called "Hanoi Climate Talks." This series will cover various topics related to climate change.

Hildner said that hosting the'Climate Talks' in Vietnam is a testament to the close cooperation between Germany and Vietnam in the field of energy transition. The Hanoi Climate Talks provide a platform to exchange experiences, raise awareness and foster collaboration among policymakers, businesses, the scientific community and the wider public. This panel is an important stage in Vietnam's efforts to decarbonize its steel industry and transition to a more sustainable future.
