¡¾Ferro-alloys.com¡¿: Indonesia-based steelmaker PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) has shared its decarbonization strategy, under which it will make several investments in its steelmaking technologies.
Accordingly, in order to become one of the most technologically advanced and sustainable steelmakers in Asia, GRP will add a side-feeding system to its electric arc furnace (EAF), reducing its energy consumption by about 10-20 percent.Moreover, the company will put thin slab casting technology and new rolling machines into operation, allowing it to produce premium quality low- carbon steel.
In the meantime, it will sign long-term scrap supply deals and make strategic investments in scrap yards to ensure a steady scrap supply. Also, GRP stated that it will focus on the production of low-carbon steel plates at its Steckel mill to meet growing demand in the export markets and that it will switch to digital transformation and automation systems to track the emissions of each product it produces.
As a result, the company intends to cater to the premium and special steel product demand of industries vital to the global energy
transition such as renewable energy and sustainable transportation and construction.
