As China's largest chrome ore imported port, annual chrome ore imports of Lianyungang port occupied nearly half of China's total chrome ore imports over the last 3 years.
In 2013, boosted by steady market demand, chrome ore imports at Lianyungang ports presented rapid growth momentum. Based on statistics from Lianyungang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, as of mid December, 2013, Lianyungang port totally imported 4.3051 million tonnes chrome ore, valued USD 1 billion up 10.73% and 22.90% YoY severally.
South Africa is still the largest exporter of Chrome or to Lianyungang port. In 2013, total chrome ore imports from South Africa hit the recorded 2.6 million tonnes. Turkey and Iran were secondary to South Africa with total chrome ore exports of about 1 million tonnes. It is noteworthy that, source of chrome ore imports of Lianyungang port is increasingly diversifying. Sweden became a new source in 2013.
In respect of imported goods, chrome ore lump is the prime one with total imports of nearly 2 million tonnes in 2013. It is chrome ore concentrates that behind chrome ore lump with imports of about 1.2 million tonnes. In addition, Lianyungang port also imported chrome ore fines in small quantities.
The quantity of imported chrome ore in 2013 almost rolled over with that of the prior year. Mainly disqualified items are still CR2O3, CR: F and SIO2.
