Japan Ferrous Scrap Consumption Rises by 2.7% in September

Japanese ferrous scrap consumption increased by 2.7% to 4.564 million tonnes in September from August, which increased for the first time in 3 months, according to Japan Ferrous Raw Material Association.
 
The consumption by converter decreased by 6.7% to 1.227 million tonnes in September compared with August while the use increased by 3.3% to 2.607 million tonnes by electric arc furnace by 22.1% to 0.579 million tonnes by casting and others.
 
The scrap supply decreased by 3.8% to 4.349 million tonnes in September from August, which marked first drop in 3 months. The steel makers' in-house generation increased by 3.5% to 1.339 million tonnes and the domestic purchase decreased by 6.7% to 3.009 million tonnes. –Japan Metal Bulletin
