China is asked to carry out macro control over alumina industry as the alumina production is in excessive expansion, said Yang Bing, deputy director of China Non-ferrous Metals Resource Geological Survey.
Alumina shortage in the past several years has pushed up the alumina price and fanned enthusiasm of launching new alumina production facilities, pointed out Yang.
The alumina projects under way or to be constructed have reached 29 in central China's Henan Province, north Shanxi Province, and east China's Shandong Province, with total designed production capacity of 2 million tons.
According to statistics, China's alumina output reached 19.45 million tons in 2007, with 7.49 million tons in Henan Province, 3.05 million tons in Shanxi Province, and 0.96 million tons in Guangxi Province.
