SHANGHAI, Aug 24 (Reuters) - China's metal smelters have started to announce production details for the first half of 2009, with more expected this month.
Huludao Zinc Industry Co 000751.SZ produced 155,000 tonnes of zinc in the first half of the year, down 11.82 percent from a year earlier. The company expected zinc demand to stay weak due to uncertainties in the global economy. In addition, a supply shortage of raw materials will squeeze treatment charges for zinc production, the company said in its interim report. Jilin Jien Nickel Industry Co (600432.SS), China's second-largest nickel miner, said it expected prices of its products to fluctuate due to a murky recovery picture. It did not disclose production figures for the first half of the year.
The list shows smelters that have already reported output figures, in tonnes, and those that are expected to announce production details soon.
