Swedish iron ore producer LKAB has signed an agreement with US steelmaker Nucor to supply 750,000 mt/year of direct reduction pellet.
The supply will begin this summer, in time for the September commissioning of Nucor's 2.5 million mt/year direct reduced iron (DRI) facility in Louisiana, LKAB said Monday in a statement.
"It is not only an important breakthrough in the growing US market, but also an important strategic geographical diversification of our direct supplies," said Goran Ottosson, LKAB's sales and marketing director in Europe and North America.
The company could not immediately be reached for comment on how the contract was priced.
