Steel Exports to the US in August increased 13% on year in Mexico

 

Mexican carbon and alloy steel fares to the US in August expanded 13% year on year to 278,272 mt, US Department of Commerce and US International Trade Commission information demonstrated Monday.

Exports from Mexico to the US in August were generally steady from July's 278,174 mt.

The most traded items were steel pipes and tubes at 94,425 mt, up from 62,547 mt a year sooner and from 76,237 mt in July.

Semi-completed steels were the second most sent out at 83,307 mt, down from 60,239 mt a year sooner and from 103,816 mt in July. Preliminary commerce statistics information said applications for import in September totaled 241,949 mt.

So far in 2018, Mexico sent out 2.12 million mt of steel items to the US, down 21.8% from a similar time of 2017.

From January to December 2017, Mexico sent out 3.07 million mt of steel items to the US.

Some Mexican steel makers and providers have suspended fares to the US and arrangements with American purchasers tailing US President Donald Trump's inconvenience of duties on Mexican steel and aluminum.

Mexico got a transitory exception from the 25% US levy on steel when it produced results June 23, however the US reported July 31 exclusions would not be broadened. Imports from Canada, the EU and Mexico have been liable to the levy since July 1.

The duties are relied upon to be managed independently under the new commercial agreement with the US and Canada, called USMC, with no course of events accommodated such arrangement.
