Over the past year, the epidemic has been cloudy, many American steel mills have stopped production, the United States steel industry has been hit. It was not until demand for cars, trucks, household appliances and other steel products recovered that U.S. steel mills began to grow slowly.
In the second quarter of last year, capacity utilization at U.S. steel mills fell to 56 percent, now 75 percent, but still well below 82 percent in February. Steel shipments were the same: up, but not up to the same period last year. At the same time, the U.S. Census Bureau data showed that the last quarter of the U.S. steel unfinished orders reached the highest level in five years, inventory at a low of nearly three and a half years.
On the price side, the benchmark price of hot rolled steel in the United States reached $1176 per ton this month, the highest level in at least 13 years. U.S. steel prices have risen more than 160 percent since last August. As a result, many parts manufacturers in the United States not only fell into the "order, no raw materials" situation, steel prices skyrocketed their material costs, some companies steel costs nearly doubled in the past six months.
According to IHS Market PMI survey, the U.S. factory pay price index was the highest since 2011 and the finished product price index was the highest since 2008. In the current situation, digestion or transfer of costs has become a new problem for manufacturers.
