[Ferro-Alloys.com]Vale’s average sales price for manganese ore in 2012 was USD134.10 per mt vs. USD165.70 in 2011. The fourth-quarter 2012 price rose to USD152.22 per mt from USD127.80 in the third quarter but was down from USD180.79 in the fourth quarter of 2011. The company’s average manganese alloy price also dropped to USD1.340.82 per mt in 2012 compared with USD1.443.01 in the previous year. The fourth-quarter price was USD1,470.59, down from USD1,774.19 in the third quarter and USD1.474.36 in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Sales of manganese alloys amounted to 267,000 mt in 2012, 30.8% below the 386,000 mt in 2011, and generated revenues of USD358-million, against USD557-million in 2011. The significant yearly decrease in sales volume and revenues for manganese alloys was due to the sale of the company’s European manganese ferroalloys operations in the middle of 2012.
Vale sold 1,745,000 mt of manganese ore in 2012 vs. 1,032,000 mt in 2011. Ore sales generated revenue of USD234-million in 2012 vs. USD171-million in 2011.
Vale’s manganese ore sales contributed 0.5% to Vale’s operating revenue in 2012 while its manganese alloy sales contributed 0.8%.
