[Ferro-Alloys.com]It is learned that Russian second largest steelmaker Evraz has shut down temporarily its steel production unit in Czech due to weak steel demand and the company’s policy to keep low inventory over raw materials.
The Czech unit’s spokesman said the duration of steel shop suspension depends on numerous factors that are now being considered by the management.
Evraz’s Czech unit, Evraz Vitkovice Steel, makes rolled steel products that are used to make cars, build ships, tankers and construct bridges. It supplied 760,000 tons of steel slabs and 824,000 tons of rolled products in 2011 and it is key a customer of the ArcelorMittal’s Czech unit which supplies it with raw materials.
